11th Florian financial meeting
On Friday 10 May, the customary financial meeting of the Florian group took place at the BHR hotel conference centre in Treviso. The meeting was reserved for representatives of banks and financial institutions in the Triveneto region, in the year that marks the group’s 50th anniversary.
Present at the meeting was the Honourable Coin Dimitri representing the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic, who said:
‘I thank the Florian family for the invitation and for giving me the opportunity to follow the evolution of your company. With you we have a thermometer on our companies and world scenarios. You have been far-sighted in having moved far ahead on energy self-sufficiency, today that the cost of energy is so impactful on families and companies, it is a step that you must be credited with being very courageous.
I was struck by one of Elvio’s phrases – there will not be enough wood for everyone – we can understand the delicacy of the moment we are experiencing, at the territorial level we must strengthen the relationship between politics and the business world; the situation will affect us and we will have to take delicate positions.
In concluding my speech, I thank you because with your optimism you are able to give energy to the territories where you are present,‘ this was the greeting of Dimitri Coin.
‘Due to concurrent institutional commitments, I cannot be present at the 11th financial meeting of the Florian Group. I wish your group a fruitful continuation in the future for the upcoming projects. Your company, well-established in the area, has given much to the territory itself, contributing to the economic and social growth of our region, always respecting nature, with a keen eye on environmental sustainability and the energy efficiency of production sites’. This is the extract of the greeting sent by Dr. Luca Zaia, President of the Veneto Region and absent for institutional reasons.
‘I am happy to bring the greetings of President Marcon, who is currently busy with another institutional appointment,’ said Stefania Sartori, Councillor of the Province of Treviso with responsibility for equal opportunities and social issues. ‘I thank the Riese Pio X Group for the invitation, to which I responded with great pleasure. I understand what it means to work in a family, like you, albeit on a smaller scale. It is a daily challenge that leads families, if supported by quality and professionalism, to great achievements. I apologise, but in this situation, where I notice that a significant part of the management is ‘female’, I have to let my equal opportunities qualification speak for itself. Up until a few years ago – and I speak from experience – it was really difficult to find a place in the world of work, especially in owner-operated companies, which is why I strongly encourage the women in this group to always be as I see them today – strong, respected, competent as well as being mothers and wives. Congratulations, keep it up!’.
‘I bring the greetings of Mayor Matteo Guidolin – the Municipality of Riese is always close to you for your projects and wishes you a good continuation, we are proud to have women who have allowed our territory to grow and become professional,’ said Ombretta Basso – Councillor of the Municipality of Riese Pio X.
Not only politicians were present at the 10th Florian meeting, among the guests were also representatives from the world of wood; FederLegno Arredo and Confindustria Veneto Est were present at the meeting.
Angela Lembo as Head of the Wood Area of FederLegnoArredo brings the greetings of FLA President Claudio Feltrin, who is proud to be able to count among its members one of the most ambitious realities in the world of wood; your group plays a strategic role for the entire wood sector.
I join the president’s good wishes and recognise the longevity of the loyal group associated with FLA.
With President Feltrin,‘ Angela Lembo continued, “we have embarked on the journey of sustainability, making our associates virtuous with FLA plus, a platform that contains concrete tools for eco-sustainability; I would like to remind you that FLA incorporates Federlegno arredo eventi, which also includes the furniture fair; the mission of this year’s fair was precisely ”sustainability’.
Last institutional greetings by Alberto Zanatta – Deputy Vice President of Confindustria Veneto Est – I bring you the greetings of Leopoldo Destro and Mirko Longo, and I greet and thank the authorities representing the community’s closeness to the industrial group. We are proud to represent the group for the trust and cooperation, a recognised national champion with a strong projection in international markets. In 50 years of activity they have brought well-being and quality of life to the territories they have touched over the years. We are often unaware of the value of local companies, but our constantly growing export figures show that we continue to create new development and new jobs, which is why we are at the top of the industrial world.
We support companies that are facing the processes of change and innovation, human capital is always essential for the right company value by encouraging the arrival of young people and new generations. companies, like the Florian group, are places for personal and professional growth.
I presented the award from Confidustria Veneto Est for the group’s 50th anniversary.
After the institutional greetings, some of the members of the Florian Management Elvio Florian, Antonio Battaglia and Dr. Lavorenti Andrea took the floor, each in their own field of competence, and gave a detailed analysis of the wood sector and the Italian and foreign markets in which they operate on a daily basis. Special focus of this edition of the Financial Meeting was given to the new EUDR regulation and the energy efficiency of the Group’s companies, a strong and ambitious project that will allow the group to achieve energy independence, with a view to sustainability, by 2025.
‘I will start my speech by saying,’ says Antonio Battaglia, ‘Once upon a time in 2022,’ as the situation in 2023, in the WOOD sector, if compared to 2022, marks a -20% drop in turnover, due to the political situation, the termination of certain facilities, such as the 110% bonus.
In 30 years the world has seen deforestation equal to the area of Europe, to combat this deforestation a new regulation on certain products, including wood, will start in 2025.
To counter this from 2025 we will no longer be able to import from non-deforestation-controlled areas, the source data of imports will be imputed into a programme that will validate the import or not. The Florian group is facilitated in forest certification as it has been proceeding in this direction for 20 years in the management of its operations.
In addition to this, the group is characterised by constant growth and the search for innovation, which is why I use a representative phrase ‘the mind must be a parachute, it only works if it is open’. – concludes Antonio Battaglia – Ad Florian Legno.
‘our group has decided to take on the challenge of including two new segments in our product lines: Oak Veneer and Lamellar Beam. Declares Elvio Florian, President of the Florian Group.
Veneer is a product that plays the role of a ‘luxury alternative’ to everything plastic.
That is why we have chosen to introduce the production of veneer from our logs; this product is processed by a total of three companies in our group. in mid-2025 we will complete this operation by including veneer in our product range on a permanent basis.
With the beam, we will use up processing waste and produce a high-class, high-strength laminated timber for construction. A true luxury beam for wooden roofs. A large project with our beam is the new Team7 building completely constructed with Flo.Lam Luxury beam.
Not only physical products, we also delve into the energy sector.
Respecting the dogmas of the UN 2030 Agenda, our group is already ready for 60 per cent of the 17 points for sustainability and corporate circularity also thanks to our certifications, FSC, PEFC and EnPlus.
the Florian group does not stop here, of course, but continues with its energy plan to achieve energy independence. We continue to optimise our production processes and the reuse of materials to create energy.
The road is marked and our group is working daily on this very ambitious project.’
