CHARACTERISTICS


Wood description:
Cherry is a strong wood, quite hard and compact, its colour varies from orange to rich red with dark grains. In radial surfaces the annual rings design beautiful rays.
Sapwood: from pale-pink to yellow;
Heartwood: pink to reddish-brown.

Histological structure:
Grain: straight;
Texture: fine to very fine.

Characteristic defects:
Inclined to warp;
Inclined to get stained during drying.

Permeabilty:
Sapwood is permeable, heartwood is impermeable.

Working properties:
Sawing: trouble-free;
Drying: easy if done slowly;
Planing: trouble-free;
Glueing: hard with hot glues;
Nailing and screwing: easy;
Finishing: easy.

Furniture and cabinet making;
High class joinery;
Flooring, ceiling, doors;
Decorative veneering;
Domestic wood ware, playthings and musical instruments.
