Wood description:
Yellow pine wood shows a clear contrast between earlywood and latewood, so growth rings are clearly defined.
Sapwood: light pinkish-yellow.
Heartwood: resinous, from orange to brownish-red.
Histological structure:
Grain: straight;
Texture: coarse.
Characteristic defects:
Numerous tight knots.
Working properties:
Sawing: trouble-free;
Drying: slow, with low risk of warp and checks;
Planing: easy;
Glueing: trouble-free;
Nailing and screwing: trouble-free;
Finishing: easy, even if it is advisable to apply a uniform bed to homogenize the wood surface.
Main uses:
Construction wood;
Ship buildings and harbour docks;
Carpentry and garments for exteriors and bridge clapboarding;
Light contructions and flooring;
Packaging, boxes and pallets.
