Wood description:
Red oak sapwood varies from white to light brown and heartwood is pinkish-brown to red. Its wood is similar on aspect to white oak, but with a lighter design due to its medullary rays.

Grain: straight;
Texture: medium to coarse.

Permeability:
permeable sapwood and impermeable heartwood.

Characteristic defects:
Shrikage is considerable and it is inclined to warp and checks.

Working properties:
Sawing: trouble-free;
Drying: slow with special care to avoid warp;
Planing: trouble-free;
Glueing: easy;
Nailing and screwing: easy;
Finishing: easy.

Main uses:
Construction and decorative garments for interiors and exteriors;
Heavy construction and wood bridges;
Mouldings, doors, kitchen ware;
Modanature, porte, mobili da cucina, rivestimenti e traversine;
Barrels and coffins.
