CHARACTERISTICS




Wood description:
Helmock wood is not resinous, it shows a general brownish uniform colour. It has sometimes dark red-violet stripes and whitish stains.
Sapwood: whitish, slightly clearer then heartwood;
Heartwood: light brown.

Histological structure:
Grain: straight, sometimes wavy ;
Texture: average to coarse.

Characteristic defects:
Tight sound and dead knots;
Possible grain deviation;
Vulnerable to fungi.

Permeabilty:
average permeable sapwood, not totally impermeable heartwood.

Working properties:
Sawing: trouble-free;
Drying: slow but easy;
Planing: easy;
Glueing: trouble-free;
Nailing and screwing: trouble-free;
Finishing: easy.



Main uses:
Construction wood;
Furniture and carpentry;
Cellulose for quality paper
Broomsticks
Plywood;
Decorative veneering.
