CARATTERISTICHE




Wood description:
apwood is creamy white with light red-brown shades and heartwood varies from reddish-brown to light and dark red. The quantity of the darker heartwood can vary depending on the areas of origin. Both of them, sapwood and heartwood, can contain stripes. The wood has a close fine texture and is generally straight grained, but it can also occur as “curly”, “fiddleback”, and “birdseye” figure.

Histological structure:
Grain: straight, sometimes wavy;
Texture: medium to coarse.

Permeability:
permeable sapwood and impermeable heartwood.

Characteristic defects:
Inclined to dimensional variations due to its fairly large shrinkage.
Quite vulnerable to wood-boring insects.

Working properties:
Sawing: trouble-free, but hardness to take into consideration;
Drying: slow with special care to avoid dimensional variations and movement in performance;
Planing: trouble-free;
Glueing: easy;
Nailing and screwing: pre-boring is recommended;
Finishing: easy.



Main uses:
Furniture and interior carpentry;
Flooring, ceiling, doors, mouldings, hand rails;
Decorative veneering.
