American Ash  - Fraxinus americana


CHARACTERISTICS




Wood description:
It grows faster then European ash and it shows a light darker colour even if the different origins can otherwise affect the tones. Also the texture is different, usually coarser.

Histological structure:
Grain: straight;
Texture: coarse and uniform.

Characteristic defects:
Tight knots;
The centre of trunks can have a dark-olive green area, fake dark heart;
Internal tensions.

Permeabilty:
average impermeable.

Working properties:
Sawing: easy;
Drying: from quick to average slow with some risk of warp;
Planing: trouble-free;
Glueing: easy;
Nailing and screwing: easy, except with resorcin glue;
Finishing: easy.



Main uses:
Furniture for interiors;
Flooring, ceiling, doors … ;
Decorative veneering;
Sports goods.
