CHARACTERISTICS




Wood description:
Niangon wood is hard to be found in good lengths and widths as it usually grows on twisted trunks small on diameter. Sapwood is greyish considerably different from heartwood which is characterized by various tones from brown to yellow or red. Its greasy appearance is due to gum resin concentrations.

Histological structure:
Grain: straight, slightly interlocked;
Texture: medium to coarse.

Characteristic defects:
Irregularity of trunks;
Gum resin contents.

Permeabilty:
slightly permeable sapwood, impermeable heartwood.

Working properties:
Sawing: easy, but it contains oil which causes allergies;
Drying: from medium to slow, some risk of warp and checks;
Planing: with special care to the occasional interlocked grain;
Glueing: easy;
Nailing and screwing: easy;
Finishing: easy, except when there are oil stains to be removed with solvents.



Main uses:
Furniture for exteriors;
Flooring and steps;
Construction wood
Bridges and boats;
Boxes for acid products.

green 850 kg/m³ , dried 650 kg/ m³.
